MarketsTurkey is a great place for bargain hunting and where better to start than the markets. Tuesday is Market day in Fethiye selling everything you can possibly think of from local grown fruit and veg at very low prices together with Turkish "Versace", Turkish "Gucci" clothes etc. All sorts of fake designer wear can be found but make sure you shop around and haggle. Sunday is Market day at Calis Beach and Gocek and Mondays in Hisaronu. Another interesting place to do shopping is the Bazaar in the Fethiye city centre. It is an amazing world with the fish market in the middle and the small restaurants where you can have your fish cooked all around . DivingIn recent years Turkey has become an increasingly attractive destination for divers offering warm, clear water and a large variety of sites. Diving conditions are generally excellent throughout the diving season from April to November with good visibility and water temperatures well above 20 degrees C. There are a number of diving schools in the area. For families who would like to try diving but are maybe a bit nervous or not too sure, The European Diving Centre offer their famous "EDC beginners day" where the whole family can go out together for a fun day - they even take non swimmers! Horse ridingEnjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside ,riding through pine forests and along mountain paths on the route towards Kaya Village (The Ghost Town) which is well worth a visit. A good trip for all the family.
Dalyan Mud BathsDalyan has many therapeutic hot springs. The waters which contain radioactive elements and sulphur are believed to cure rheumatism, skin, liver, spleen and bowel complaints, as well as being beneficial for nervous and digestive disorders. The Sultaniye Thermal Bath which is famous in Turkey, the water is 40 degrees Centigrade. The mud baths are also said to remedy rheumatism as well as cleanse and beautify the skin. Once you have covered yourself in the mud, wait for a few minutes to dry it. You then clean yourself in the sulphur pool. A great day trip. If you do this as part of a tour you will also get the opportunity to cruise in a river boat seeing Turtle Beach with its loggerhead turtles and the 5th Century Lycian Rock Tomb.
RhodesFancy a day out in Rhodes - the journey by fast hydrofoil takes about 90 minutes. You are then able to visit Rhodes castle, museums and the old city. During high season the hydrofoil link from Fethiye to Rhodes runs every day at 09.00 and returns at 16.00. Costs are in the region of 60 euros return.
